Why do I need a pilot kite and what characteristics should it have?

In fact, many people think the aerobatic kite is extremely understandable, and there’s nothing to say about it. Well, what is a pilot kite really? The gizmo needed for a couple of hours to learn how to manage a kite designed to tow a rider? Or something more?

Let’s start with the simplest and most understandable. A pilot kite is really needed in the first place for acquiring towing kite skills. But learning to learn is different, so aerobatic kites can be different.

There are aerobatic kites for 1000 rubles. Having acquired such a miracle of the Chinese clothing industry, you are guaranteed to get into the load the most unpleasant impressions and the desire to never engage in kiting, or even hear anything else about kites. Why so? After all, an aerobatic kite is just two layers of fabric sewn together, with ribs between them creating a wing profile. Well, what could be wrong there?

Yes, anything, from the material of the dome to the material of the slings and their settings.

The dome material must be durable and airtight. Moreover, the nature of its air tightness can also be different. Some materials, special, expensive, synthetic, are initially impervious to air and have a fair amount of strength. Such materials do not suffer from kinks, undergo good blows with the leading edge on the ground, and without any harm to themselves, they get wet from rain or fall on wet grass. They can be washed and difficult to spoil. One trouble – such a kite cannot cost a thousand rubles, and even two. It costs more.

The material of cheap kites is therefore cheap because it does not have the whole set of necessary properties. Simply put, it is not suitable for tailoring a sound aerobatic kite. But, nevertheless, the Chinese smartly sew from it and sell such aerobatics a thousand or so for the dome. It would seem, well, him, splurge on aerobatics for one piece of material! And so it will fly.

He may fly away, but the toilet paper also flies away after being used outdoors in the presence of good wind. Thinking about purchasing a kite in general and a flight kite in particular, you need to understand that the flight of a piece of toilet paper and the flight of a kite differ fundamentally. The paper flies away like the wind blows, without a hint of control, but the kite is just the opposite. Its essence is that it needs to be piloted, otherwise it will not fulfill its functions either at the training stage or at the stage of towing a rider.

And here it is just very important what material your aerobatic kite or the aerobatic kite of your instructor is made of. You can discuss the materials used in kite building for a long time and knowingly, write out their names and tensile strength parameters, but this will not give anything to beginners, and when a beginner ceases to be a beginner, he will already comprehend everything.
Why do I need a flight kite and what characteristics should have
It is important to understand the main thing – if cheap kites take off, then managing them as needed is almost impossible. They behave unstably and unpredictably, their flight, like the flight of a piece of toilet paper, almost does not depend on the actions of the pilot and is chaotic. This is due to a number of reasons, but the dome material plays its, and not small, role. More precisely, the degree of air tightness of the dome.

The fabric of a cheap kite does not have its own air tightness, but acquires it only after impregnation with different compounds. The first take-off of such a kite will probably be within the acceptable range, but as the fabric gets wiped during transportation, and especially when it gets wet and when wet, the kite will completely lose its flying qualities and can only work in a narrow section of the wind window. Which completely excludes the possibility of its use for training! Indeed, the essence of working with an aerobatic kite is precisely the ability to stably hold a kite in the desired area of the wind window, in the desired traction sector, simulating the movement of one or another tack, creating traction in the direction necessary for towing, including at significant angles to the wind .

That is, paying a thousand or one and a half thousand rubles, you will not get a flight kite, but a toy similar to it, and you can launch such a kite only as a children’s kite on the beach. That is, by and large, this is not an aerobatic kite, but only a kite that simulates aerobatics in the form and type of controls. And he will not give you the slightest opportunity to get towing kite skills.

And this, by the way, is not just bad, but deadly. Since, having fun with such a “pilotage” (well, when she hangs out in the center of the wind window for a while), you will get the illusion of developing some skills. Then take a towing kite and realize, at best, that you cannot handle it. And at worst, get hurt. And injuries in kiting, not by night will be said, those more. Up to the amputation of limbs with slings.
