Sports jewelry

Extreme sports activities develop a number of skills that are significantly different from the skills of ordinary people, those who jog from a heart attack. Extreme and extreme, which opens up the ultimate possibilities for those for whom it has become a way of life. This is an amazing sense of balance, and beyond dexterity, and courage, far beyond the usual framework.

That is why, in the subcultural environment of extreme groups, special rules of behavior have been developed, and a number of customs have arisen that distinguish this particular group from others. One aspect of these customs and rules, often unwritten and unspoken, is the fashion for special jewelry. In fact, a bead or pendant, bauble or bracelet can be a real distinction for members of a particular subcultural group of extreme people.

So, among surfers the custom arose to wear wooden beads, sometimes made independently, and sometimes bought from a master from the same environment. The beads could be different in shape and color, and the material of manufacture – wood, united them. Could be used palm wood, juniper, beech, as well as hard coconut shell. Girls were not forbidden to hang a pendant from kauri on such beads, and some women from the surfer party created real works of art in the form of a necklace from a variety of shells and gifts of the ocean.

In Russia, this practice was quickly adopted by windsurfers, who rightfully consider themselves to be the direct successors of real ocean surfing. At first they began to wear the same beads as surfers, but then they went a little further, and began to hang on them a small stylized surfboard made of steel, brass, bronze, and silver. And already from windsurfers, this addition to the traditional surfer decoration has migrated to the open spaces of the surfers themselves. They began to grind stylized boards from coral and stone, as well as cast from synthetic resins, then painting them in one color or another.

Other water extreme sports, such as wakeboarding and kiting, appeared later than surfing, and therefore, wakers and kiters, also not without reason, considered themselves heirs to the surfer culture. Therefore, wooden beads with the appropriate shape board took root in them. Moreover, the difference between the pendant of the kiter and the waker will be noticed only by the initiate, because the shape of the boards in these disciplines is very similar.

But not only extreme water sportsmen have their own sports jewelry. For motorcyclists-bikers, the pendant with the image of a skull, as well as rings in the same style became familiar. Skaters adorn themselves with baubles and leather wristbands, and snowboarders wear special knit bracelets that can be used as a headdress at the same time.

A necklace of a special shape has recently appeared in street racers. With the light hand of Richard Hammond, the host of the popular Top Gear television program, racers from white cubes alluding to the square colors of the finish flag came into fashion among racers. The beads themselves can be six or seven, but they are made exactly white.

The fashion for sports jewelry has penetrated into the environment of very young, or rather well-forgotten types of extreme sports. A typical example is longboarding. In fact, it originated in the sixties of the twentieth century, and became the founder of skateboarding. Then they forgot about him for a long time, and recently they remembered again. Now this “surfing on the asphalt” is actively developing not only in America but also in Russia.

Since it was California surfers who made the longboard to ride even when there are no waves in the ocean, the symbol of sports jewelry in this sport remained purely surfer. In addition, the pintail longboard is very close in shape to an ocean surfboard, so modern loners did not have to invent anything in this regard. And in fact, apparently, it is longboarding, and not something else, that is a real continuation of surfing. After all, it was surfers who stood on the first longs.
