Which wakeboard to buy the most true?
We can safely say that wakeboarding is one of the most modern, and at the same time one of the most striking, exciting disciplines in extreme sports. Currently, wakeboarding has steadily divided into two independently developing areas. One is cable wake or, as it is called in Russia, winch wake. The second is classic wakeboarding, where a boat is used for towing.
But this duality with the same name and close essence is not the only thing that clearly distinguishes wakeboarding from other extreme disciplines. If in skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, and even more so in roller-skating or extreme cycling, you first buy what you will ride and then learn, then on a wakeboard all professionals will unanimously tell you that before you buy a wakeboard , one must not only learn to ride it, but also master this skill to a sufficient degree.
The reasons for this inversion are many. Let’s consider only the main ones.
First one. The fact is that a water start on a wakeboard is the main stumbling block for beginners. To learn how to ride a board for a boat, or even ride a winch, you must first, as the wakers say, “get out of the water.” After all, when you start, you are in the water along the neck. And easily a water start on a wake looks only performed by those who own it. Rare beginners, even under the guidance of experienced instructors, do this the first time, where more often you need to spend two or three sets of fifteen minutes. And for some this is not given on the first, or even the second day. But there are those who do not master the start on a wake, and can not deal in principle. And, of course, it will be a shame to buy a board for not a little money, and then understand that you are simply not able to ride. Or, having exhausted and pulling all the veins in your arms, realize that this is much more difficult than it seemed when watching the video, and that you are simply not ready for such physical and psychological stress.
The second reason is that after a water start, further training in wakeboarding skills is fast enough, in any case faster than in many other sports. Therefore, you quickly turn from a green beginner to an advanced beginner. And then you understand what kind of wakeboard you needed to buy, and with horror you understand which one you actually bought. Here, disappointment is definitely inevitable, because even low-level boards are decent, and changing the board in the first season of skating can be a serious blow to the budget. The problem is that the sonority of the brand and the quality of the board have little to do with how comfortable you will ride it. You can buy a very advanced board and give up on it. Since the thrill of riding a wake depends on the interaction of the board with your riding style. And if one contradicts the other, then instead of the buzz there will be only a harsh and useless donkey on the water behind the boat. To avoid this, you need to ride on other people’s boards and understand which of the elements of their design you are high and which are not. For example, the number and size of fins, the expressiveness of redans, the shape of the rocker and the general shape of the board, as well as its material, rigidity and even weight. Do you need some of this or not, and if necessary, in what form, you can only understand from personal experience. No descriptions will lead you to the right choice until you feel with your own feet and ass what each of the characteristics of the board means.
wakeboard to buy
The third reason is that any club that provides skiing services also provides board rental services. Moreover, the boards are different, which will give you the opportunity to try them all, understand how one differs from the other and choose which wakeboard you need to buy. Moreover, more often than not, the cost of renting a board is included in the price of the ride itself, but because you ride on your own board that there is no difference in money for someone else’s. Therefore, it is necessary to spend money to buy a wakeboard for personal use when the rental board ceases to satisfy you and, moreover, you will understand why it does not satisfy you. Otherwise, buying a wakeboard will be a waste of money with the need for subsequent resale.
And the fourth of the main reasons is that all the fun of riding a wake is manifested in jumping and acrobatic stunts performed by a rider. If your complexion, physical strength and endurance, level of fear and common sense allow you to ride only “pancake”, that is, without jumping, hoods, somersaults and the like, then you will get tired of such skating very quickly. Literally in one season. Because just lugging a boat on a halyard is no more interesting than skiing on a ski tow rope. Yes, while you still have not got along with balance, yes, when everything is new and unusual for you, even such skating inserts. But this is only the first five to ten times.
